TextTree is a web application, so there are things it can’t do due to browser limitations, and some tasks are better handled by specialized tools. Here are some external apps and websites that are useful to combine with TextTree, along with books that inspired TextTree's concept as a tool for thought.
Images for the Veil
The Veil covers the window with an image while you're not using it, hiding what's on screen (set it per folder from 🎨 on the workspace screen). Photos and illustrations both work (PNG, JPEG, or WebP; 20 MB or less). A different image for each folder also makes windows easier to tell apart.
- Wide images work best (less gets cropped with "Fill").
- An image that matches your theme's brightness blends in better (a darker image for a dark theme).
If you don't have a suitable image, a conversational AI service can now make one easily — for example:
- Gemini(Google) (Google)
- ChatGPT(OpenAI) (OpenAI)
- Microsoft Copilot(Microsoft) (Microsoft)
Unrequested text or logos sometimes appear — if you don't want them, ask for "no text or logos". Example prompt (for a light theme, change the colors to something like "pale sky blue and white"):
An abstract background image with smooth gradients in deep navy tones. No text or logos. Wide (16:9).
To use an image, click "Choose image" in the Veil section or drop the file there. For generated images, please follow each service's terms of use.
Besides your favorite photos and illustrations, animated images (GIF and animated WebP) work too. Make it your own.
Opening Paths (PathGo)
PathGo(Microsoft Store/Windows用)
Web apps cannot open paths directly, so we've prepared a companion tool that opens the clipboard path. Click the system tray icon to use it. PathGo (Microsoft Store, Windows)
Free SVG Icon Sites
ThinkTray(.tt.svg ダイアグラムエディタ)は、Webページからコピーした SVG コードをそのまま図形として貼り付けられます。
ThinkTray (the .tt.svg diagram editor) lets you paste SVG code copied from a web page directly as a shape. TextTree itself doesn't ship with an icon library, so pairing it with a free SVG icon site makes it easy to bring icons into your diagrams. As an example, here are a couple of sites (there are many other SVG icon sites out there too).
— A set of simple line icons. Copy the SVG code and paste it into ThinkTray.
— Another site for generating and copying SVG icons.
Please follow the license terms of each site when using their icons.
(Inkscape)
Drawing Your Own SVG (Inkscape)
If the icons available online aren't quite what you need, the free vector editor Inkscape lets you draw your own original shapes and icons. Copy your drawing as SVG code and paste it into ThinkTray to bring it into your diagram.

TextTree's concept of "write, think, and organize" is informed by ideas from the following books. If you're interested, we recommend picking them up.
(Rui Yoshida — Japanese only) — introduces a simple "model-based thinking" method for understanding complex things, explaining them clearly, and generating new ideas.
(Masaharu Kato — Japanese only) — a classic guide introducing 21 practical tools for generating ideas, echoing TextTree's own concept as a tool for thought.
原著は英語で書かれた『How to Get Ideas』。 How to Get Ideas (Jack Foster) — based on the idea that there's a knack to having ideas, this practical guide covers concrete creativity techniques across 14 chapters. Later translated into Japanese as 新装版 アイデアのヒント.
